in 1956, Mercury model cars were powered with the 312 engine with 4 bbl carb.  Our engine kit is built with the flattop pistons which will give a 9 to 9.5 to 1 compression ratio depending on the cylinder head used.   The 312 v8 varied in horsepower from 210 HP version in Mercury cars w/ manual transmissions to the 260 horsepower version in 1956 with a dealer installed Hi Performance camshaft and revised cylinder heads with 4 bbl carburetor.
